What inspired you to start group? At the time I didn't really know other poets in the area and was searching for some kind of regular poetry group in Stockton to join. When I was unable to locate one I thought, "If I can't find one then why not start one because there has to be others locally that are interested in the same thing?" …..so that is how it began.
What happens in the group? At each meeting we discuss the assignments given. We read each other what we wrote and offer feedback and suggestions. Our group consists of not only poets but writers of all sorts so we offer encouragement and inspiration to keep writing. It is a way to keep motivated with our passion which is writing, so I like to think of it as more than a poetry group, even though the primary focus is poetry. At the end of each meeting I give a new assignment for the next group, it is always so fun to see what each of us come up with.
What kinds of things do you like to do with poetry and what else are you involved in?I work full time but every chance I get I am involved with writing or poetry. It has become a passion for me. I am very excited to say I have just had my first book released,' Raven's Brew'. I also edit poetry for an online magazine of the fantasy genre which you can check out at www.liquid-imagination.com. That has been a fun learning experience as well. I'm also in the process of starting my second manuscript. Please feel free to check out my website at www.ravens-brew.com (link not currently online). I have a spot reserved there for artists who would like to display their work. I am trying to help promote local artists. Also I have a section called 'fledglings' which is for poets 13 and under to display their poems. I'm really trying to expand on that because I love working with kids and seeing what they write. I think that has been the most rewarding part of all.
